“Say: “Are those who know equal to those who know not?” It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allâh’s Signs and Verses).”
Verse 9, Chapter 39
Masjid Bilal serves the Winnipeg community at large and specially around East Kildonan and surrounding areas. InshAllah, the Centre aims to provide prayer services and other vital needs of the community.
The Winnipeg Islamic Centre has a non-profit community Weekend Islamic School dedicated to the purpose of nurturing and instilling Islam to Muslim children. Currently the WIS has four different programs to serve the Islamic needs of Muslim children in Winnipeg; Regular weekend school (WIS), pre-Islamic school Tahfiid Program, Tamhiid program and tutoring program. The WIS’s emphasis is on the memorization of the Quran and understanding and practicing the Quran and Sunnah according to understanding of our Salaf Asaalih.
The main objective of Winnipeg Islamic Centre and Weekend Islamic School programs is to build Muslim youth identity that gains knowledge of Islamic religion and practices, and becomes fluent reader and memorizer of the Quran. We aim to teach children about Islam and fulfill this mission through the following objectives:
- Produce a generation of young Muslims who are knowledgeable and practicing the Quran and Sunnah.
- Instil children to practice manners according to teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
- Today’s students are tomorrow’s imams, scholars, teachers, and ducat and thus should develop basic Islamic knowledge and manners to reach that goal.
